Line of Duty Death Info

It is the policy of the Mississippi Fire Chiefs Association, that all departments be prepared for a line of duty death. We know that this is a very tough subject to talk about and prepare for, but we should all take the time to prepare for it. In the event that your department suffers a LODD, being prepared will make what we all dread, much easier to deal with. The key to this is preparation.

Below you will find a link to a LODD information packet. This packet can be downloaded and used by your department to get the needed information from each of your members. This is very personal information that should be kept with your personnel's private employee file & it should be given back to them upon them leaving your department. The packet ask very important questions that will aid your department in planning a funeral for your member in the event that you need to do so. Addressing these questions now, will take the burden off the family & make a very tragic event easier to plan and get through, while maintaining the wishes of your member.

There is also a link to Firehero.org, where more information on LODDs can be found. Please understand that we know that no one wants to even think about having a LODD in their department, but planning for one now, will make what we all fear, easier to deal with.

The MSFCA wants to thank Fire Fighter Robert Templeton of the High Point, NC Fire Department for all the information he has provided us on this subject. Robert spoke to us on this issue at our 2011 Mid-Winter conference. He has also shared this information with fire chiefs all over the Southeast.
